About the Contest 2010

The 2010 LACVOX Investigative Contest is promoted by UNICEF and sponsored by Telefonica Foundation, the International Labor Organization (ILO), together with the SONICO Social Network. The contest objectives center around the participation and development principles of children and adolescent as promoted by UNICEF, the United Nations, civil society, the media, and the private sector.

The alliance with ILO and Telefonica Foundation aims to create awareness and mobilize adolescent communicators about child labour and the way in which this problem affects many children in the region, whose rights should be guaranteed.

This contest aims to strengthen the Regional LACVOX Network and celebrate the International Year of Youth of the United Nations, which begins on August 12, 2010, and ends on August 11, 2011. The Year event recognizes the value of young people’s contributions in the creation of policies, programs, and projects that affect their lives and favor their development.

The children and adolescent communicators are fulfilling their rights as stated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and contribute to the promotion and validity of their rights in an environment which respects different cultures and gender equality. Through these traditional media and new informational technologies, children communicators gain self confidence in order to opinionate on issues that concern them at family, school, and community levels.
